Alex May gave a keynote and joined Joan Llort in conversation as part of Ways of knowing: lines of contact between the sciences and the arts, the Academia Europaea Barcelona Hub Art and Science meeting, held at the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona (RACAB) on Wednesday 18 September 2024.
The official event page describes the meeting as bringing together visual artists and researchers to explore lines of contact between art and science. Alongside May, the programme featured Marta de Menezes, Anna Dumitriu, and Javier Forment, with Lluís Nacenta, Lúa Coderch, Josep Perelló, Paula Bruna, and Joan Llort taking part in conversations and round tables across the day.
Searchable programme listings for the event identify May’s contribution as a 12:50 keynote, followed by a 13:10 conversation with Joan Llort. Within a programme explicitly framed around different ways of knowing, his contribution placed algorithmic and media-based artistic practice into direct dialogue with scientific research, critical discussion, and public exchange.
The meeting continued with an afternoon session at Barcelona Gallery Espai 2. Further details remain available via the Academia Europaea Barcelona Hub event page, the linked programme PDF, and the video of the event.
